For my Heroes

On Saturday, May 2nd, I participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. It was incredible. My sweet Grandma Marva and my amazing Aunt Merrilee have both endured breast cancer. They are heroes to me- and I wanted to participate in this event in celebration of them. There were thousands upon thousands of people there. All the cute ladies in pink shirts were women who had survived breast cancer. I was near tears as I thought about the women in my life who fought this disease, and won. It was a pretty overwhelming feeling. I was happy that my tag said "In celebration of..." and not "in memory of..." So, to the women in my life who inspire me, I thank you. My life would not be the same without you.

I loved their shirts: "Save the Tatas" Ha!

Let the road trips begin!

Oh what fun! I love road trips. The music, the company, the treats, the sunsets, the conversation, and seeing new places. Most of my road trips consist of going up to Utah. And I usually go by myself, which I rather enjoy. It gives me time to ponder... I lucked out and got the most amazing roommate, Amber. We made a couple of road trips to Utah in March and April and had a BLAST!!! We went to Park City where Amber got us totally lost and I got mad and punched her, we went to the Holi Festival of Colors, we ate Wildflower Grille chicken tacos, had a photo shoot with Brittny, played Yahtzee a million times, watched General Conference with my bestie Micahleen, visited Jeff (he's my favorite), had a sleepover with Adyson, and survived a horrendous blizzard. In the middle of April, I went to California with some friends in my ward. We stayed at my friend Michelle's house, who lives ON THE BEACH. In Newport. We got up early and walked to the pier, ate breakfast, and enjoyed the ocean breeze. I do love the mountains... but I think I love the beach more. Our ward was going to six flags that day, and we almost bailed to hang out on the beach. It was BEAUTIFUL... Add Newport Beach to my list of places I want to live.

Mission pals

I got to hang out with two of my FAVORITE elders from my mission. Robert Ashworth lives here in Vegas, and facebook reunited us! Brandon Keller came down from Utah, and the three of us, and Rob's wife Ashley, hung out for an evening. Robert is fighting leukemia for the second time. This kid is incredible. He was drafted to play pro baseball right out of high school, but went on a mission instead. And now he is fighting this terrible disease. I am sure I would be pretty bitter. But Rob and Ashley have a lot of faith and hope. I was so impressed with them- They are fighters, both of them. Rob and Ashley have a blog here, if you are interested in reading his story.

It was SO GREAT to catch up with these two. The three of us served in the same ward together, and they were great to look out for me when my companion morphed into the most insane sister missionary that ever walked the earth. We had a lot of laughs together on the mission, and this night. I hope to see more of them...
